Toolkit for Hispanic Families
http://www.nhcfae.org/links.shtml
"We want to make sure all Hispanic families know about the help available to them under NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. We want them to know that students can qualify for free tutoring when schools fall short of their responsibilities. We want them to know that families can ask schools to translate information free of charge. We want families to know how they can help their children with reading and homework. In other words, we want Hispanic families to know how they can get more information and get more involved.

That's why we created this tool kit. It gives families the information they need to help their children get ahead in school and in life. And we want to make sure Hispanic families get this information in a language they can understand, so we're making the tool kit available in both English and Spanish."

- U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings

New Partnerships

http://www.nhcfae.org/links.shtml
Let me touch on another benefit we’ve established through partnerships:  Professional advice; legal and financial.

A partnership with the law firm Kalijarvi, Chuzi and Newman, P.C. of Washington, DC, provides a tangible benefit for members who believe they are the victims of discrimination or in need of advice in employment law.  A Coalition member referred by an officer receives a free legal consultation to explore the merits of their issue.  At DC-attorney-rates, this translates to a $350.00 benefit if the consultation is just one hour.  Additionally, KCN will extend a reduced, partnership rate to members in need of representation beyond the initial consultation.

We have also partnered with the The Harvey Group, LLC.  Their knowledge of investments, Federal Benefits and experience in asset management offers an indispensable benefit to our members.   Steve and John at The Harvey Group are developing online training programs and are readily available for investment advice and retirement planning for Coalition members.  I recently participated in an online training session on “The Fundamentals of Investing” that proved effortless and informative.  There’s more to come in this arena as we coordinate a schedule where members will be sure to garner benefits their wallets will welcome.

A special thanks to our sponsors http://www.nhcfae.org/corporate_partners.shtml
We’re making great strides toward serving up member benefits while remaining focused on our purpose; especially through the partnerships and alliances we’re building.  For example, we’ve partnered with Sprint who provides a 15% discount for customers on a federal plan.  It sounded too good to be true to me but one 10 minute call immediately saved me 15% on my cell phone bill. (Sorry, there’s a little play on slogans from another Corporate Partner: GEICO)

Finally let’s not forget a benefit established in 1983 in the tradition of a national training conference that has become an annual highlight.  The conference has united, educated and developed countless members to help them become more effective employees and leaders.  The partnerships with corporations like Blue Cross/Blue Shield, GEICO, FAA 1st, Wright and Co., and the others on our Partnership page have allowed us to produce first-class training events.  Plan a trip to the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas, Nevada, the week of July 17th where we will be “Beating the Odds, Together” by learning and developing skills at our 2006 National Training Conference.
